At Bradford Forster Academy, we pride ourselves in providing excellent pastoral care for our pupils. Children thrive best when they feel happy, safe and secure – regardless of their age – and we work with parents to teach them good manners and respect for each other.
Our small class and Hometeam group sizes mean that we can deliver very personal care to our pupils. Everyone is recognised and known, teachers work together to ensure that pupils are correctly supported, and we encourage a real sense of community that many families feel extends well beyond our gates.
Throughout our academy, our pastoral care is centred on Houses. We are a co-educational school and strongly believe that, as far as practically possible, boys and girls should be educated together. So, all of our houses are mixed; our classes and Hometeam groups are also mixed. At Bradford Forster Academy we have four houses:
In each house there are two Hometeams per year group. This system enables a well-structured pastoral structure in which every child has a Learning Guide to share their achievements and concerns with. Our Learning Guides see their Hometeam on a daily basis, getting to know each person as an individual whilst providing them with support and nurture.
We have a Pastoral Manager, led by the Assistant Principal – Student Support, to oversee the running of all pastoral interventions throughout the academy. The pastoral team work alongside the SENCO to provide excellent pastoral care.
The key to maintaining that atmosphere is in ensuring that all relationships at Bradford Forster Academy are based on mutual respect. We expect high standards of behaviour, founded on our student characteristics, combined with genuine concern and compassion for others. Underlying all of this is the shared responsibility for the wellbeing of the pupils at Bradford Forster Academy. All the innumerable points of contact – in the classroom, in the corridor, on the games field etc. combine to establish their happiness, success and academic progress.
