Design & Technology, Cooking & Nutrition and Art

Year 7 Design and Technology, Cooking and Nutrition and Art.

During Year 7, Bradford Forster Academy pupils take part in the subjects of Design and Technology, Cooking and Nutrition and Art. Pupils complete four units of learning across the three subject areas.

Design and Technology

The Bradford Forster Academy Year 7 Design and Technology curriculum is designed to ensure that all pupils can understand and respond to a design brief; evaluate the effectiveness of their own ideas and existing products; and safely, accurately and independently use a variety of basic machines, tools, techniques and materials to manufacture a product.

Pupils complete two units of learning during which they design and manufacture fully functional products which fulfil a purpose. In one unit pupils learn how to use resistant materials such as plywood and learn how to use dimensions, drawing and measuring equipment, Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacture. A second unit is focused upon the use of textile materials during which pupils learn how to shape, combine, modify and decorate fabrics and associated components using both hand and machine manufacture methods.
